I have been practicing law since 1985 and after doing something else for the past several years, am returning to a client-centered practice in Estate Planning.
COVID-19 cemented my desire to return to estate planning because it does not involve another lawyer, state agency, or court. Just me and the client. COVID also affirmed my desire to make estate planning documents available to a larger audience – the lower paid essential workers. I refer to this as a Simple Will Package – will, durable power of attorney, and Advance Care Directive.
I graduated from Connecticut College and Suffolk University Law School. I received a Master of Arts Degree in Homeland Defense and Security from the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security in Monterey, CA, taught graduate and undergraduate courses on the subject, and wrote a homeland security law textbook (Foundations of Homeland Security, Law and Policy, Second Edition (Wiley, 2017)). I am passionate about this, however, there is little market for homeland security law consulting. President Trump had a written pandemic plan since 2018, but I was not able to raise any interest in this law.
I am licensed to practice law in California, Colorado, Massachusetts, New York, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. I have been a police officer and search and rescue team leader. I have had 75 trials to verdict and after all these years, have experience in several areas including estate planning, criminal prosecution, court appointed criminal defense, landlord-tenant, immigration, personal injury, and civil rights.
